Day 3 – (08/18) West Kingston, RI (Day 1)

This was another great day for travelling ...  just like yesterday.

The journey, however, was quite different.
  • ·         We finally ended our west-to-east PA drive, on our 3rd day of travel.
  • ·         We passed through parts of NY and CT quickly.
  • ·         Some CT driving was on a beautiful, 2-lane scenic route.
  • ·         We’re camped in RI, about 17 miles from Newport.
The 251 mile trip went east on I-84 out of PA, through NY to Danbury, CT.  We then went “scenic” by switching to CT 53, CT 302 and CT 58 to reach Bridgeport.  We then took a very busy I-95 north past Milford, New Haven, New London and on into RI.
Yippee, we get to enter a new state!
Some travel tidbits:
  • ·         We almost made it to Promised Land Campground in the heart of the Poconos last night.
  • ·         We crossed the Neverstink River when we passed from PA into NY at Port Jervis.
  • ·         We crossed the Hudson River and the Fishkill Mountains.
  • ·         The scenic drive through CT was as we imagined … tree-lined back roads, old homes and  stone walls.
  • ·         Our last memory of CT was gas at $4.099 per gallon.
We’re camped at Wawaloam Campground.  It’s one of twelve RI campgrounds listed in our directory.  It’s very nice.  The sites are large and they have many amenities for families.  We’ll be here for two days.  It's time for some serious sightseeing.
