Day 5 – (08/20) Plymouth, MA

We had a light rain last night.  It was enough for our Fantastic Fan to close, but barely enough to dampen the grass.  The sun poked through the clouds by 8am and the day stayed cheerful as we loaded up for a short trip to Plymouth.

The drive to Plymouth was only 77 miles.  Traffic was light.  We’re camped in a pine forest at Pinewood Lodge Campground.  The wilderness setting and location is perfect … 5 miles to Plymouth Rock, 15 miles to Cape Cod and pretty close to Boston.  We’re going to launch our travels from here for the next 3 or 4 days.

(Yep, same site # as at Wamaloam Campground)
We headed for Plymouth Harbor after getting set up.

Plymouth Rock was our 1st stop ...
OK, here it is!

(no wonder the pilgrims stopped here)
Mayflower II is a replica.  It was built in England using original construction methods and sailed to Plymouth in 1957.  The crossing took two months (just like the original voyage).

These tour guides were actors.  They spoke of the voyage in the 1st person and were very good.

The Plymouth visit was very enjoyable.  It wasn't chaotic like many high traffic areas.  We arrived downtown, drove to the bay and parked on Water Street.  The street is lined with shops, restaurants and historic attractions. Tourism is a big deal here, but the community seemed very welcoming and peaceful.  Sandwich Street gave the same impression.

  1. Hey! Who's that pirate up there in the green shirt? He looks friendly - but looks can be deceiving! :)
Are you *sure* that was the right rock??? Kinda poetically understated, I guess.
    Love to you both!
