Day 28 – (09/12) Lubec, ME (Day 2)

Today was sunny and perfect for exploring the area.  We went to the easternmost point in the U.S. at Quoddy Head State Park and to Campobello Island in New Brunswick.

Campobello Island
The island is about 10 miles long, has 1,100 residents and is just a short bridge drive from Lubec.  This was our first visit to New Brunswick.  We drove the island end-to-end and side-to-side.  The highlights were the Franklin D. Roosevelt Summer Home and the East Quoddy Lighthouse.

The FDR Summer Home was exquisite.  It’s beautifully maintained.  Six tour guides were posted throughout the house to enhance the self-guided tour.  All but four furniture pieces were original.  Wow!

The gardens were beautifully tended and included these huge dahlias.

The East Quoddy Lighthouse is on an island.  There’s a 3 hour window during low tide when you can walk to the island.  Unfortunately, we were there during high tide.

It's hard to get to
Here's why

We ended the day by doing laundry, grilling hamburgers for dinner and watching
TV.  We head further north tomorrow.
